Flash/ActionScript Game Artist
Backstage is looking for a smart, personable, dedicated and creative person to join our team as a Flash Game Artist and designer to create original Facebook and OpenSocial games. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an expert-level Flash designer and artist, with strong artistic skills and creativity, to drive the visual design and production of original, community-based online Flash games.
The ideal candidate is:
- Highly creative: experienced in designing and developing Flash-based games and graphics; must include experience in creation of original characters, environments, animations, etc.
- Visually versatile: comfortable and capable of working on a broad range of visual styles and game themes
- A strong communicator: Strong verbal, written, and communication skills Organized: able to work on several projects at a time
- Efficient: capable of creating effective graphics and design within the technical constraints of the online medium
- Motivated: eager to take ownership and drive the look of a game product from conception to completion
- A team player: capable of collaborating with the art director, programmers, and production staff to produce top-quality games
Qualifications:
- Expert-level 2D design and animation ability, as it pertains to Flash and online games
- A portfolio of web sites / applications that can be viewed on-line
- A minimum of 1 year's art experience with Flash game art development
- Experience working with graphics packages (such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash) to create UI elements
- Social gaming experience, as it pertains to casual MMOs, Facebook, etc BFA in digital or traditional art a plus, but not required.
Skills:
- Creative designer, with an ability to design highly appealing original characters and game worlds
- Graphic design and layout skills, as it pertains to user interfaces and interactivity
Software knowledge:
- Flash CS3 / CS4 and ActionScript 3.0
- Photoshop CS3 / CS4
- Illustrator CS3 / CS4
Assets:
- Usability analysis experience
- University degree or College diploma in Computer Science or a related discipline
- Knowledge of web authoring standards and programming languages: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX
- Experience developing web applications with JSP, Java Servlets, PHP and/or ASP

UI/JavaScript Game Developer
Backstage is looking for a smart, personable, dedicated and creative person to join our team as a UI/JavaScript game developer to create original Facebook and OpenSocial games. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an expert-level Front End Web developer with strong JavaScript and UI skills and creativity, to drive the front end design and development of original, community-based online Flash games.
The ideal candidate is:
- Highly effective: experienced in designing and developing JavaScript user interfaces with innovative Flash-based applications.
- Versatile: comfortable and capable of working on a broad range of UI styles for games and Web applications
- A strong communicator: Strong verbal, written, and communication skills Organized: able to work on several projects at a time
- Efficient: capable of creating effective user interfaces and multi-platform browser front ends within the technical constraints of the online medium
- Motivated: eager to take ownership and drive the development of the UI of a game product from conception to completion
- A team player: capable of collaborating with graphic artists, programmers, and production staff to produce top-quality games
Qualifications:
- Expert-level skills in User Interface development using JavaScript.
- A minimum of 3 years in UI development, with a portfolio of web sites / applications that can be viewed on-line.
- Experience working with today’s top UI development tools; JavaScript, CSS, HTML and Ajax are a must.
- 3 -5 years experience working in small development teams doing rapid deployment of Web applications.
- Social gaming experience, as it pertains to casual MMOs, Facebook, etc.
Skills:
- UI development skills, with an ability to design highly engaging and intuitive social game user interfaces
- Browser-based unit and integration testing
Software knowledge:
- Web authoring standards and programming languages: JavaScript, CSS, HTML and AJAX
- Experience developing web applications with JSP, Java Servlets, PHP and/or ASP
Assets:
- Usability analysis experience
- Knowledge of RESTful APIs
- University degree or College diploma in Computer Science or a related discipline
